In the Golden Age of Magic, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Chicago was a major center for magic in the United States. Magicians from all over the world gathered here to amaze and entertain audiences in theaters, parlors, nightclubs, showrooms, bars and restaurants throughout the city. In the last half of the twentieth century, those places all but disappeared.

In magic, things tend to reappear in the most surprising ways. The Magic Cabaret first appeared in 2007 and has since continued the Chicago magic tradition, bringing a live magic show to audiences eager for surprise, mystery, and wonder. Every Wednesday evening, magic fans gather in the intimate setting of the Greenhouse studio theater, where P.T. Murphy and David Parr present classic conjuring in the Windy City style, with an emphasis on audience participation and mind-boggling sleight of hand! As the Chicago Reader put it, “This is an evening that shows magic to its best advantage, up close and personal.”
